Smart: plug in, drive, enjoy
Endesa and Mercedes team up: with the new Smart, you will have the charging equipment installed at your home free of charge and you can cover a distance of up to 10,000 kilometres without paying for electricity.
When the Smart was created, two decades ago, it did not aim to be just another car. Right from the start, it was something special: for the first time in automotive history, a watch brand participated in its creation. Mercedes-Benz and Swatch joined forces to design a car that could park where others could not. The former company contributed all its experience in the sector and the second, its design department.
Its defining features were two seats, a protection cell called Tridion that converted it into one of the safest cars in the market, high-end technology – such as ESP stability control – and, above all, a design that turned heads. Swatch left the project early on, but Mercedes-Benz continued to take it forward and founded Smartville in France, the most advanced car production plant of its time, back in 1998.
After various generations and millions of units sold all over the world, the new Smart preserves the spirit of the original model (compact, urban, with a unique design) and now adds internal space for up to four people and the performance of a large car, so you can escape from the city in it.
Naturally, in such an advanced model, there was bound to be an electric version. The new Smart electric drive range will allow you to enjoy the two-seat version (to park in any space you propose), four-seat (to travel accompanied) and cabriolet (to enjoy driving under an open sky) without consuming a single litre of fuel and with zero emissions.
And now, with Endesa, charging it will be easier than ever, thanks to the agreement recently signed with Daimler-Benz Spain: during the launch period, when you purchase your Smart it will include the installation of the Wallbox (charging station), which will have a two-year warranty and three years of maintenance. The advantages do not end here: with Endesa’s ZERO SMART TEMPO tariff, if you charge it between 1 am and 7 am you can enjoy your Smart without paying for the electricity, up to 10,000 kilometres per year. You must bear something in mind: the Smart electric drive offers a range of up to 160 kilometres, so that you will not even have to charge it every day to drive around the city.
“Our objective is to contribute to the transition from the combustion engine to the electric vehicle, facilitating the installation of the charging point through integration in our commercial network and in the sales process.”
This alliance is a great leap forward for the introduction of electric cars in our daily lives and towards cleaner, healthier and quieter cities. The Endesa General Manager of Marketing, Javier Uriarte, explained this during the presentation of the agreement: “It represents a very significant step in our common objective to bring sustainability to the transport industry.” Reiner Hoeps, President of Mercedes-Benz Spain, added: “Our objective is to contribute to the transition from the combustion engine to the electric vehicle, facilitating the installation of the charging point through integration in our commercial network and in the sales process.”
Electric cars are a reality. And with a Smart, it’s also a pleasure.
