Ibiza, electrical and renewable
Endesa and smart are inaugurating the first public recharging network for electrical cars on the island, providing access stations with 100% renewable energies to ensure driver autonomy.
Since the start of the summer, Ibiza has thus enjoyed this new advantage, another step forward towards emission-free driving. The initiative, an association between smart and Endesa, provides the island with 5 strategically located semi fast recharging points to ensure autonomy for all electrical car users on the island. The new public charging network is supplied by renewable energies and, unlike the system that Endesa has already set up in Majorca, any user can have access to use this, and only has to register as an ecaR customer by means of a simple mobile phone application. The major novelty is that, although any electrical company can use the network, it is completely free of charge for smart EQ users.
As of now in Ibiza, just like in Majorca, you can drive from one end of the island to the other in an electrical car without fear of running out of energy. Autonomy is assured. At zero cost, if you also drive the smart EQ.
However, this association between smart and Endesa goes further: by acquiring a smart EQ you are provided with the “Charge&Install Package”, through which you have every facility to install a recharging point at home. Endesa in turn offers an exclusive tariff to recharge for free from 1am to 7am, up to 1200 kWh a year (enough to travel approximately 8,000 km a year).
We will install 600 public accessible recharging points over 3 years.
The inaugural act at Ushuaïa Beach Hotel was attended by the CEO of Mercedes-Benz España, Roland Schell, and the Director-General of Endesa X, Josep Trabado.
For Roland Schell “Leading the transition from heat engine to electrical vehicle is one of the fundamental priorities of Mercedes-Benz Cars. In fact, the clear commitment of smart to this technology is such that as of 2020 it will only offer electrically propelled vehicles in Europe. Projects such as the one we are presenting today alongside Endesa are essential to integrate this technology into society’s mobility habits”.
For his part, Josep Trabado stated that “Endesa is firmly committed to deployment of the electrical vehicle by providing an intelligent recharging infrastructure supplying clean energy for new emission-free cars. This will favour greater efficiency of the electrical system and greater market penetration of renewable energies. We have broad experience in the development and management of recharging infrastructure, and implementation of this network in Ibiza is one further step for the electrical vehicle to increasingly become a reality. It is essential to break down the initial barrier of fear of running out of battery and we will set up 600 publicly accessible recharging points over three years. Moreover, having partners such as smart and the Palladium Group join us is without a doubt quite a privilege”.
Endesa’s ecaR application enables users to locate recharging points via GPS, reserving and recharging without the need for a credit card or cash. And there is the prior experience of Majorca, where the same operation has been carried out!
This summer, whether you live in Ibiza and drive an electrical car or whether you have planned to holiday on the island, you can now start to enjoy the benefits of emission-free driving! And this is just the beginning, because Endesa’s intention is to set up the project in several locations in mainland Spain.
