Electric cars are for summer too
Summer is here, it’s time to be outside on the streets. Literally. Electric mobility goes beyond mere transport and can be one of the most appealing summer plans. And under the open sky, of course. We propose some wonderful inventions so that this holiday season is unlike any other.
Drive with the top down… And without fumes
There may be no vehicle that better summarises the playful side of driving than a convertible. Driving on a highway among pine trees, smelling the chlorophyll, or tracing the coast with the taste of salt on your lips and the caress of the sea breeze on your skin are experiences that only roofless cars provide. There is now a way to enjoy this experience without polluting so that you soak up the environment without bad fumes and without the bothersome sound of the engine covering, for example, the chirping of birds.
Electric convertibles have started to become popular, and there is one for all tastes. From fully equipped sports cars like the Tesla Roadster to much more affordable options like the Noun Electric NosMoke, which is reminiscent of the mythical Jeep, perfect for a beach escape. Speaking of beaches: do you remember the Citroën Mehari that appeared so often on the series Blue Summer? The Bee Bee XS is remaking that concept of a simple car without complications, like relaxing vacations in a coastal town should be: the rear propulsion comes from an electric engine with 13.6 horsepower, which can be increased at specific times up to 27.2 horsepower. Despite the relatively simple technology, the Bee Bee XS recovers energy during braking to increase its autonomy. It reaches 90 km/h, but if you prefer, you can opt for a calmer variant that reaches at most 50 km/h. By the way, the batteries recharge in just four hours.
The Twike Twike Basic is a two-seater car reduced to the minimum expression (only three wheels), but just from the outside, because its figures are to die for: it reaches 85 km/h… And it has 600 kilometres of range! If you want a more “normal” car (to put it one way), the smart fortwo cabrio electric drive allows you to get around the city and travel, you decide. Problems parking? Not for this car. You can fit practically anywhere.
Four wheels to reach anywhere
ATVs are possibly the best all-terrain vehicle: Their configuration, a compact vehicle with four-wheel drive and studded tyres, allows you to follow any path, no matter how steep it is. First the bad news: for the moment, electric engines are reserved for children’s models. Now the good news: not all of them are. ATVs for adults propelled by batteries have started to appear on the market. In the case of the Quad Warrior S8 1000w, capable of reaching 25 km/h and withstanding a weight of 90 kilos. Getting covered in mud is fun! The most important company in Spain is Tecnocio.

The sidecar is a type of vehicle with nearly two centuries of history, which now in an electric car, fully enters into the future of mobility. The concept is simple: A motorcycle with a wheeled attachment to take whoever you want with you on your getaways. There are several offers on the market, but one in particular has swept us away: the French brand Matra has launched its e-MO XP, a ‘scooter’ connected to a leather armchair, so that your companion travels like a king. In addition, the sidecar can store more batteries so that the range extends to 120 kilometres. It reaches 45 km/h and has a compact size to get around the city like a fish in water. For the time being it’s a prototype, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if it were available for sale?
It is for sale with the Dr. Jones from Bikelec, which we’ve also loved for its capacity to be customised. You can take a sidecar with you to use, or if you prefer, a compartment to bring luggage… Or the beach refrigerator.
Paddling is going to end
Surfing is one of the quintessential summer sports, but for those who are starting, paddling to reach the wave can be quite costly. The new boards with an electric engine attached avoid this nuisance, and effortlessly take you to the crest. You just need to guide it with your front foot, like a skateboard.
But electric board have must more possibilities to enjoy. For example, you can tour the channel of a river, or navigate the coast tranquilly or at high speed. The Jetson Amberjack only weighs 6.4 kilos with the engine and battery that, by the way, you can disassemble whenever you want. The Jetson Haddock is a bit bigger, and therefore, it has more buoyancy and is more manoeuvrable. It doesn’t allow doing so many spins, and therefore is perfect for trips.
